On March 17, 2012 at Montrose Beach, a twelve year old girl and her mother were walking their small Pomeranian dog. An off duty policeman was walking his pit pull terrier at the same time. The pit bill was not on a leash and attacked the Pomeranian causing serous injuries. the owner of the pit bull refused to give his name or phone number, but someone snapped his picture with a cell phone camera. The owners of the Pomeranian posted hundreds of flyers to identify the owner of the pit bull, which ultimately lead to the identification of the off duty officer. The owners of the dog have sued to recover over $5,000 in vet bills. Unfortunately, the law does not allow them to recover for any sentimental value the dog may have had as a family pet. Illinois law allows money damages for physical injuries to pets and people. If you have been attacked by a dog or other animal, please feel free to contact us at 773-633-4522.
