A double-decker Megabus headed to St. Louis from Chicago crashed into a concrete pillar on Interstate 55 this afternoon, injuring at least 25 people. Some of the injuries were critical. The bus accident occurred when the driver lost control after a flat tire. The bus swerved and hit a concrete pillar that supported an overpass near Litchield, Missouri, about 60 miles north of St. Louis. State police shut down I-55 in both directions; it was expected to remain shut for several more hours. Bus accidents can be severely traumatic for injured passengers.
