The Chicago Transit Authority has agreed to discuss a settlement with the family of a woman killed by a CTA bus in 2007. Ludwika Szynalik, 59, was killed on New Year's Eve 2007 by a negligent driver. Ms. Szynalik, an immigrant from Poland, had exited the bus and was retrieving her bicycle from the rack on the front of the bus when the bus began moving. Ms. Szynalik was run over and dragged for almost 80 feet before the driver realized she was under the bus and stopped. The driver was later fired after it was determined that the death was due to his negligence.
