Have you ever fallen asleep behind the wheel?
According to a recent study by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, one in ten drivers has. The numbers were especially alarming for the youngest cohort of drivers, those ages 16 to 24: one in seven had fallen asleep while driving.
Some drivers have no choice but to make long trips for work, especially truckers; others simply misjudge their own level of exhaustion and think they'll be fine to drive. Many states have installed rumble strips on the sides of highways to alert drivers that they are veering off the road.
At McCready, Garcia, & Leet, we help car accident victims win settlements for their injuries and the deaths of their loved ones, so we are all too aware of the dangers and the damage that drowsy driving can do. If you're feeling sleepy, pull over and take a ten-minute nap rather than trying to make it home. You might save a life.
