In the wake of Superstorm Sandy, many seniors and people with disabilities have been stuck without power or busy fulfilling basic needs and haven't had the ability to attend to their Medicare enrollment. Out of consideration for these unfortunate circumstances, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has extended the enrollment deadline for seniors affected by Sandy.
The original deadline to obtain, drop, or change your Medicare Advantage or Medicare Part D plan is December 7, 2012; however, those who need an extension can call Medicare's 24-hour information line at 1-800-MEDICARE. The new deadline has not yet been announced. Those who do not call will automatically be re-enrolled in their current plans.
