Two men were killed on I-57 near Onarga, north of Kankakee, on Wednesday, November 29. One man, Jimmy Lee Westbrook, 58, of Tennessee, pulled over to the side of the road after his car lost a tire. Westbrook walked into the road to retrieve the tire from the center median and was struck by a car driven by a man from Summit. As he lay in the road, another man, Jack S. Douglas, stopped to help. Douglas and Westbrook's passenger pulled Westbrook to the side of the road, and Douglas returned to his car to call for help-- but before he reached his vehicle he was struck by another car, a Camry driven by a man from Champaign. Both Westbrook and Douglas were killed.
