A minivan was split entirely in two after colliding with a tractor trailer on the Borman Expressway early in the morning on December 5, 2012. The van veered toward the side of the road, according to witnesses, and struck a semi that had parked on the shoulder and that was clearly marked with triangular hazard signs. The semi driver was uninjured; the driver of the minivan was hospitalized with lacerations to the head and chest. The van driver was identified as a 37-year-old man from Maywood; police did not release his name. The accident shut down traffic on the Borman Expressway for two hours.
