Patient's Family Sues Nursing Home over Maggots in Ear

Last updated 5 years ago

A patient's family filed suit against a senior care facility, Lutheran Home at 800 W. Oakton St., Arlington Heights, Illinois, after a gruesome incident in which Catherine McCann, 90, was found to have 57 maggots living inside her ear.  Ms. McCann was being cared for by a nurse on September 16, 2012, when the nurse spotted a fly larva, or maggot, crawling out of Ms. McCann's ear.  The patient was rushed to Northwest Community Hospital, where a doctor removed the insect larva as her daughter looked on.  The family is suing the home for "failing to provide a reasonable standard of care." Lawyers for the home insist that this was a freak occurrence unrelated to the standard of care provided.  If you or a loved one has been injured as the result of negligence at a senior home, you may be entitled to compensation.  McCready, Garcia, & Leet can help.  Please call us at (773) 779-9885 to find out how we can win justice for you and your loved ones.
